The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, recently held a strategic meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to discuss key reforms in copyright administration and enforcement. This meeting is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s creative industries as a vital contributor to economic growth.

The discussions focused on critical issues such as reviewing the copyright levy imposed on the creative sector, the Collective Management Regulation, and matters concerning Collective Management Organisations (CMOs). These reforms are aimed at creating a fairer and more efficient system for managing copyright and royalties.

The engagement brought together key agencies including the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy (FMACTCE), the Ministry of Justice, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), and the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC). Their collaboration is intended to harmonize efforts towards improving the regulatory framework governing the creative sector.

The initiative is expected to strengthen copyright protection, enhance enforcement mechanisms, and maximise economic returns for artists, producers, and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s creative economy. These steps are aligned with the broader vision of President Tinubu’s administration to foster a vibrant and sustainable creative industry.
