The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Clean Innovation Hub to jointly organise the International Oil Spill Summit and Expo in Nigeria. The agreement was formalised on August 11, 2025, at NOSDRA’s headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant step towards enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to address the environmental, economic, and social impacts of oil spills.

The summit will provide a high-level platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among key stakeholders including industry players, government agencies, community leaders, and environmental experts. It aims to bring together local and international participants to showcase new technologies, policies, and strategies for oil spill prevention, detection, and response.

Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, NOSDRA’s Director General, praised Green Clean Innovation Hub for its longstanding partnership since 2012. He described the summit as a crucial forum to unite oil and gas operators, host communities, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, security agencies, and the media, fostering better understanding and cooperation. This initiative aligns closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Mr. Promise Amaha, Chief Executive of Green Clean Innovation Hub, welcomed the MoU as a major advancement towards inclusive climate and environmental action. He revealed that the Expo will launch the Oil Spill Host Communities in Renewed Hope Initiative and introduce strategic measures to strengthen community involvement in surveillance, reporting, and capacity building, in line with NOSDRA’s mandate to protect Nigeria’s environment.
